Women’s Political Participation and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in Colombia
Women’s Political Participation and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in Colombia
High-Level Policy Briefing in the run-up to the annual Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security
11 October 2023 ECOSOC Chamber, UN Headquarters
While the detailed content of Colombia’s first NAP has yet to be published, this was an opportune moment to take stock of the level and quality of women’s participation in the process of its elaboration. To this end, the Permanent Missions of Colombia and Switzerland to the UN, the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and the New York University Center for Global Affairs (NYU CGA) hosted a panel discussion to showcase Colombia’s advancements and innovations on WPS and how they have worked to increase women’s political participation and inclusion in decision-making processes. It was also an opportunity to hear from different stakeholders on how they will contribute to the expansion of the participatory approach and the application of lessons learned from ongoing processes into the broader Total Peace Policy and future peace processes.
