CSW70 Reflections: From Global Dialogue to Real Justice for Women and Girls

As the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York ends, my heart is filled with reflection, hope, and renewed purpose. 🌍✨ From March 9–19, the world gathered to engage in powerful conversations around this year’s theme: ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls. The sessions were rich, thought-provoking, and deeply necessary, especially in a time when so many women and girls are affected by conflict, inequality, and systemic barriers.

I had the privilege of attending several impactful side events, from digital empowerment and AI governance, to women’s access to finance, peacebuilding, and ending gender-based violence. One session that deeply resonated with me focused on ensuring access to justice for older women,a long-overdue conversation. It highlighted how age and gender intersect, often leaving older women invisible in legal systems, despite a lifetime of inequality in education, income, and rights.

A major outcome of CSW70 is a landmark agreement calling for:
✨ Elimination of discriminatory laws
✨ Strengthened legal systems and accountability
✨ Responsible use of digital technology and AI
✨ Recognition of community justice workers
✨ Survivor centered approaches to justice
These conclusions remind us that justice is not just about laws, it is about dignity, healing, and empowerment.
Beyond the sessions, I was inspired by the incredible women I met, leaders, advocates, and change makers from across the world, all working tirelessly to create a more just and equitable future. Through my own humanitarian work supporting women, youth, and children with special needs, I am reminded that real change begins at the community level, but is strengthened through global collaboration like CSW.
As we move forward, my hope is clear: that the commitments made at CSW70 will translate into real, measurable change, especially for the most vulnerable women and girls across the world. Together, we must continue to give, advocate, and act, because when women and girls have access to justice, the whole world moves forward. đź’ś

CSW70 Reflections: Advancing Justice, Equality, and Opportunity for Women and Girls

I am honored to once again be in New York at the United Nations Headquarters for the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), taking place from 9–19 March 2026. UN CSW remains the largest global gathering dedicated to advancing gender equality and the human rights of women and girls. This year’s priority theme focuses on ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws and practices, and addressing the structural barriers that prevent women and girls from fully realizing their rights.

Just a day before the conference began, we marked International Women’s Day 2026 under the inspiring message “Give to Gain.” This powerful call reminds us that investing in women and girls, through resources, knowledge, opportunities, and solidarity. Creates stronger, more just societies for everyone. As someone deeply committed to humanitarian work, gender advocacy, and community empowerment, attending CSW is always a moment of reflection and renewed purpose. Through my work supporting women, youth, and children with special needs, I have seen firsthand how empowering even one woman or girl can transform entire families and communities. Yet, in a world currently facing conflicts, humanitarian crises, and growing inequalities, the voices and protection of women and girls are more important than ever. From communities affected by war, insurgents, terrorist to those facing poverty and discrimination, women continue to show extraordinary resilience and leadership.

My hope as we engage in dialogue, negotiations, and global collaboration at CSW70 is that we leave with strong commitments and actionable outcomes that place women and girls firmly on the path toward justice, opportunity, and peace. Together, if we give support, compassion, and opportunity, we will certainly gain a more inclusive and equitable world. I remain hopeful that when CSW70 concludes, women and girls everywhere will stand on the positive side of progress, dignity, and justice. “When we choose to give opportunities, justice, and support to women and girls, the world gains equality, peace, and progress.”

Women’s Political Participation and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in Colombia

Women’s Political Participation and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in Colombia

High-Level Policy Briefing in the run-up to the annual Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security
11 October 2023 ECOSOC Chamber, UN Headquarters

While the detailed content of Colombia’s first NAP has yet to be published, this was an opportune moment to take stock of the level and quality of women’s participation in the process of its elaboration. To this end, the Permanent Missions of Colombia and Switzerland to the UN, the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and the New York University Center for Global Affairs (NYU CGA) hosted a panel discussion to showcase Colombia’s advancements and innovations on WPS and how they have worked to increase women’s political participation and inclusion in decision-making processes. It was also an opportunity to hear from different stakeholders on how they will contribute to the expansion of the participatory approach and the application of lessons learned from ongoing processes into the broader Total Peace Policy and future peace processes.
