WHO WE ARE
Established in 2009, the Ismor Magoro Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to empowering women, children, youth, and people with disabilities in Nigeria. Aligned with Sustainability Development Goals, the foundation drives impactful projects in finance, shelter, education, empowerment, mentorship, and entrepreneurship, fostering holistic community development.
The Founder and CEO is Dr Bilkisu Magoro.
Dr. Bilkisu Magoro is a result driven International Affairs and Diplomacy Business Consultant. She has over 28 years’ experience of engaging with international and national organisations, corporations and governments in four continents to develop and implement sustainable economic, political and public policies. Bilkisu is a mother and proudly Nigerian.
Memberships
Her memberships in an array of associations have provided her with the well-rounded hands-on experiences which she has leveraged and exhibited as a delegate in over 42 attended global summits. Education
A product of the Federal Government Unity Schools, her academic qualifications include a BSc in Biological Sciences,a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy and a Doctorate of Philosophy in International Relations. Acknowledging the paramount importance that technology has on the economic, social and personal levels, she has completed numerous certifications including The Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber Security,learning disabilities and women empowerment
Empowerment
Her brainchild, the Ismor Magoro Foundation, focuses on empowering women,people with disabilities and youth. Through this foundation, several projects including initiatives aligned to achieving the Millennium Development Goal 2015 in the areas of finance, shelter and education were successfully implemented. The second phase, Sustainability Development Goals, centres on the areas of empowerment and education. A proponent for sustainable development, she has trained over 2,000 women in hand craft organic shea butter production. With the objective of shining a light on Special Needs education, she recently completed the training of 800 teachers in the area of inclusive education.
Community
Constantly aware of the major role that her community played in her development, Bilkisu views her passion for voluntary work towards empowerment and nation building as the only path to take. This was a key factor in her decision to: Serve as the elected National President of the Federal Government College Jos Old Student Association for four years. Under her leadership, the number of alumni memberships and participation increased from 300 to 3,780. Open Bilmor Technical and Vocational Centre for special needs children in 2016. Organise and participate in peaceful marches to increase awareness and take action for the Sosoliso plane crash victims and the Chibok girls abduction and most recently organized, the Women4Women one million Women rally to demand the passage of the gender equality bill and Charter of demand for Nigerian Women.
Recognition
Recognised for her contribution to society and community advancement, Bilkisu has received numerous national and international awards. Recently the Civic leadership and community development award by African Women Conference UN CSW62 2018 New York side event. The Humanitarian award by Vigor Awards Int Canada 2017 for her role in empowering women and youth in Africa. Dr. Magoro is also the humble recipient of the merit award for Entrepreneur per Excellence, Input towards Education and the Distinguished Merit Award for Excellence in Prudence and Accountability.
Governance
In 2010, Dr. Magoro contested for the Federal House of Representatives with a campaign strategy focused on empowerment, the right to basic human needs and education. She has researched and enhanced the curriculum for learning disabilities (from early intervention to adulthood) with the objective to get it passed as a legislation.Her interests in sound governing structures, education, social policies and reform (the UWAIS constitutional review) have seen her journey to over 39 countries. On this passage of knowledge seeking, she has strived to create awareness of how Africa’s tremendous opportunities and capabilities far outweigh the challenges faced on the continent. She’s an advocate for home grown/ organic solutions which drive and embed the utilisation of local content.
